Marzamemi, located about 20 km from Noto in the province of Syracuse, is a charming fishing village that is gaining more and more popularity for its colourful palette and beautiful sea views. The origin of the name is unclear, but it is said that it may derive from the Arabic word 'marsà al hamam' (bay of turtle doves), due to the presence of numerous of these birds during the spring. Another interpretation suggests that it may derive from 'marza' (harbour) and 'memi' (small). Regardless of the exact etymology, what is important today is the suggestive atmosphere that Marzamemi manages to give visitors.
