Therasia Resort- Michelin-starred Sicilian Hotel

Italy's best hotels have been included in the new Michelin Guide 2024 dedicated to accommodation facilities of excellence located throughout the country. The Michelin Keys, the equivalent of Stars for restaurants, are the seal of excellence that distinguishes the most prestigious hotels. The 'Three Keys' indicate absolute excellence in international hospitality, guaranteeing a 'unique stay', the 'Two Keys' represent an 'exceptional stay', while a single Key means a 'special stay'. These awards were given after rigorous evaluations of the properties based on excellence in architecture and interior design, individuality, personality and authenticity, quality and robustness of service, comfort and maintenance, relevance of the property in the context of its location, and consistency between price and experience offered.

Two Michelin Keys Sicily 2024

Among the 146 award-winning establishments throughout Italy, Sicily stood out with three exclusive addresses that received Two Michelin Keys:

On the northern side of the island of Vulcano, in the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, is the Therasia Resort Sea and Spa, from whose saltwater infinity pools you can admire the nearby island of Lipari, less than a mile away. The same view is offered by the terrace restaurant and the balconies and terraces in most of the rooms and suites. The interior style is rather classic and the rooms are spacious and relaxing. The hotel provides access to no less than three unforgettable black sand beaches, all with incredible views, and the wellness centre is particularly luxurious. Four restaurants ensure a wide gastronomic choice. Both Il Cappero and I Tenerumi have earned 1 Michelin Star, an achievement that makes Therasia unique among hotels in Italy.

The San Domenico Palace in Taormina is a former 14th-century convent, transformed into a Grand Hotel in the 19th century, which has seen the likes of Oscar Wilde or Audrey Hepburn. Today, as a member of the Four Seasons family, it is a first-class luxury resort that became world famous for being the setting for the second season of the TV series 'The White Lotus'. The hotel has been completely renovated, bringing it up to contemporary standards, but from an aesthetic point of view, the work has been carried out discreetly, preserving as much of the historical atmosphere as possible. The interiors are dotted with works of art and antiques, original finds from the former convent's collection, lending the furnishings an impeccable authenticity. The rooms and suites have also been updated, with an equally respectful touch: functionally, they are state-of-the-art, while the appearance retains its timeless charm. There is a splendid panoramic swimming pool, a sumptuous spa and a generous offer of restaurants and bars, including the Michelin-starred Principe Cerami. The hotel offers services and activities that go well beyond the typical high-end hospitality offerings, with customised options related to local culture: from Sicilian wine tastings to culinary and architectural tours to sailing trips along the coast.

The Grand Hotel Timeo is located on a promontory from which it is possible to admire the Greek theatre, Taormina and Mount Etna. It is a period villa, built in 1873 and a symbol of the Sicilian aristocracy, which has hosted famous personalities such as Oscar Wilde, DH Lawrence, Guy de Maupassant and William II, no doubt attracted by the view and the opulent decoration of the magnificent interiors. Modern travellers choose it for its elegance, refined style and magical atmosphere as one of the most exclusive hotels in Taormina. Renovation in the late 1990s restored the common areas to their former glory and added more modern elements such as the swimming pool and wellness centre, while the rooms, furnished with period furniture and artwork, have achieved a high standard of contemporary luxury with high-tech accessories. The Michelin-starred restaurant, Otto Geleng, serves refined Sicilian cuisine, while the lounge with its large windows and terrace is the ideal place for reading in an intimate, elegant and impressive setting.
