Gambero Rosso awards '3 Spicchi' to the best Pizzerias in Sicily

Pizza has always been one of the most popular foods in Italy and abroad. Even in Italy's largest island, Sicily, there is a strong tradition for Neapolitan pizza, which is prepared in all pizzerias and enriched with specialities from the Sicilian territory, resulting in masterpieces such as: Pizza alla Siciliana, Pizza Messinese and Pizza alla Norma, recipes that taste of Sicily in every bite.

Gambero Rosso, a publishing house specialising in food and wine, awarded the Sicilian restaurant in the Pizzerias of Italy Guide 2023awarding the 'Tre Spicchi' prize to no less than six Sicilian pizzerias:

The pizzaiolo Pierangelo Chifari, brings the Archestrato di Gela from Palermo among the best pizzas in Italy having been awarded the 'Tre Spicchi' prize three times! The other pizzerias that have gained recognition are Verace Elettrica and da Clara of pizzaiolo Sergio and his brother Tonino Russo, L'Orso in Messina with pizzaiolo Matteo La Spada, La Braciera in Palermo with Daniele Vaccarella and Piano B in Syracuse with Friedrich Schmuck.

In addition to the 'Tre Spicchi' award, Gambero Rosso honoured the Sicilian pizzeria Saccharum of Altavilla Milicia with the special award for 'Research and Innovation' received by Gioacchino Gargano, a chef who is able to properly combine local ingredients with a good dose of inventiveness and courage.
