Sicily, a sun-kissed island in the heart of the Mediterranean, is famous for its rich culinary tradition. One particular aspect of Sicilian gastronomic tradition that has gained great popularity in recent years is the vibrant street food culture. Recognising this phenomenon, Gambero Rosso, the renowned Italian food and wine guide, dedicated its latest edition to celebrating Italy's best street food, with a focus on the vibrant offerings found in Sicily.

The new Guida Street Food 2024 of Gambero Rosso has more than 40 Sicilian establishments, a result that confirms the great popularity of street food in Sicily. The guide offers a selection of the best places to taste typical Sicilian delicacies, so popular with tourists and Sicilians themselves. These specialities include Palermo's sfincione, arancini, scacce ragusane, spleen sandwiches, panelle, crocchè and much more. Palermo stands out with no less than 20 establishments in the Guide, a result that crowns it among the best places in Italy for its street food.

The Gambero Rosso Guide to the best Street Food venues 2024 does not award specific prizes and recognitions, but points out 20 Regional Champions, one per region, and indicates the addresses of the venues included in the guide. The Sicilian Street Food Champion, according to Gambero Rosso, is located in Ragusa and it is Delicatessen in drogheria. The café offers not only delicious sandwiches and colourful salads, but also a deli counter with hot and cold main courses, a showcase of high-quality cold meats and cheeses, and a fruit and vegetable counter with fresh produce harvested in the province's fields by environmentally aware farmers. The café is characterised by its cosy atmosphere and friendly staff, who are happy to make pleasant small talk and provide advice on purchases.

The presence of so many Sicilian establishments in Gambero Rosso's Street Food Guide 2024 is an acknowledgement of the extraordinary vibrancy and diversity of street food in Sicily. This selection of venues and markets represents an unmissable opportunity for all those who wish to immerse themselves in Sicilian street food culture and enjoy its unique delights.
