Honey from Sicily

Sicily, a land of ancient traditions and authentic flavours, has once again demonstrated its excellence in honey production at the 'Tre Gocce d'Oro - Great Honeys of Italy". The event, organised by the National Honey Observatory since 1981, aims to promote quality honey and valorise national beekeeping companies by ranking participants according to the number of 'Golden Drops' ranging from 1 to 3 in the highest grade.

The 2023 edition of the Three Golden Drops Competition saw the participation of 26 Sicilian beekeepers, who sent in no less than 47 honey samples. 36% of them were awarded with One or Two Golden Drops. Many Sicilian provinces contributed to the island's success, with three prizes awarded to Siracusa, two to Ragusa, two to Trapani and one to Agrigento. Palermo was the star performer with no less than five awards, among them the Miele di Sulla honey from Giuseppe La Mantia's farm, which received the prestigious 'Three Golden Drops' award. The extraordinary quality of this golden nectar won over the jury, earning it the highest accolade and bringing prestige to the Sicilian beekeeping tradition.
