Historic Trains of Taste 2023: rail journey through flavors and landscapes of Sicily
The tracks of Sicily are preparing to relive vintage moments with the exciting initiative of the "Historic Trains of Taste". Thanks to the FS Foundation, vintage trains will return to the island's tracks, offering residents and tourists the opportunity to explore enchanting places and taste local delicacies along the way. An initiative made possible thanks to the support and promotion of the Sicilian Region's Department of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment.
The program of "Historic Trains of Taste" in Sicily will extend from August to December, giving as many as 51 events on some of the most scenic and picturesque railway lines on the island. It will kick off on August 12 and close on December 10.
Historic train routes will connect major urban centers such as Palermo, Siracusa, Agrigento, Messina, Caltanissetta and Trapani to scenic and cultural jewels such as Cefalù, Modica, Ragusa, Tusa, Porto Empedocle and Castelvetrano. Each itinerary will not only be a journey between train stations, but a true immersion in the history and essence of Sicily with the possibility of participating in guided tours and excursions related to each route.
A unique aspect of this edition of the "Historic Taste Trains" is the introduction of a specially equipped baggage car to carry up to 50 bicycles per route. This initiative aims to promote train+bike mobility, allowing travelers to further explore places of interest along the route.
In terms of cost, the price of tickets for 2023 has been set at only 2 euros per route, making this experience affordable for everyone. Tickets will be available through Trenitalia's sales channels, as well as on board the train, subject to availability.
